Edinburgh Castle stands guard over one the world's most beautiful cities. With its origins going back before 1100 A.D., the castle houses the Scottish Crown jewels and is still the headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. There are several museums in the Castle complex and the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a display of Scottish history and the abilities of the British Armed Forces takes place in a huge temporary stadium erected every year in July and August just for the event. Edinburgh is undoubtedly one of the world's most "real" tourist destinations.
